Don't F**k with New Years Resolutions

January 8, 2020

As we step into a new a decade with fresh dreams of having an amazing year of success, love and happiness.

It is important to understand that there is more to a new years resolution than simply wishing good things for ourselves.

"A goal without a plan is just a wish"

To achieve a resolution you will need a plan, and this plan will need to be put in action to help us execute our resolution.

To have any type of success whatsoever we need a well thought out map to help us not only stay on track but to hold us accountable. Stetsasonic's iconic song title rings true.

"Don't let your mouth write a check that your ass can't cash",

Actions speak louder than words. Don't talk about it, be about it. Make a vow to yourself out loud. Now that you're ready, it's time to put plan your plan to work.

What is a SMART objective?

Resolutions are a little easier to achieve when we set ourselves SMART objectives.

SMART is an acronym for specific, measurable, agreed, realistic and time-bound. Have this in mind when choosing your resolutions. Making sure we set them to be as SMART as possible will help us to hold ourselves accountable.

Be aware of setting a goal that is too BIG!

One thing to be aware of is setting a goal that is too big. Why? Well, the enormity of our goal could have a detrimental effect that prevents us from achieving our goal all together.

In addition to this, having too many goals could have a similar effect. Too many goals could create unwanted anxiety which ends up holding us back and stops us from achieving anytime at all. Imagine missing out on achieving something amazing because of setting ourself a not so SMART goal. Don't be that guy/girl.

Another thing that could hinder us is the magnitude of our past achievements. The goals we pick for ourselves can leave us feeling so overwhelmed.

What can we do to prevent this from happening to us?

We can start by breaking goals down into smaller actionable tasks, this can help us so much. When setting a SMART goal try to break this down further into smaller tasks, these tasks will help you to complete your goals in the long run.

What do we do when things start to feel on top?

Well, when you feel like your goals are getting the better of you it is important to take a step back. Take a break, re-strategise and come back with a brand new perspective!
